Excavations in the commune of Valbonne have proved that prehistoric man was present in this part of the Côte d'Azur countryside. Many remains have been found: Neolithic axes made of polished stone, bronze age funeral urns, roman tiles, fragments of amphora and oil and grain jars (dolia). These latter bear witness to agricultural activity dating from the early centuries A.D.
The presence of the Romans is also confirmed by the remains, near Sophia Antipolis, of one of the tree aqueducts that supplied Antibes, listed in the inventory of historic monuments.
